2016-17 Winter Quarter - page 39

COMETH A SPECIAL TIME
In the Christmas season, many
of us alter our daily routine to
accommodate the shorter days and
colder season.
For some that means sipping a hot
chocolate near the wood stove,
perhaps with a chess board or good
book at hand. For others, it’s enjoying
the crisp air, hopes for heavy snow, and the fact
that hockey season is now in full swing.
However we handle winter—and whether we
even like the season—is up to each of us. But we
should nonetheless take time every Christmas to
consider the Christ-child’s coming.
Christ came to save sinners, but how he chose
to do it should humble each of us. In becoming
man, the King of all Creation first reveals
Himself to the world in the vulnerability of an
infant. This is not how we usually think of kings.
Powerful warlords or rulers are what typically
come to mind.
Yet on that starry night so long ago, a night rich
with mystery and hope, our heavenly king arrives
in glorious innocence.
Had it been a prince with drawn sword at the
door, assuredly, the innkeeper would have
let him inside. Yet our king approaches us
differently.
He simply asks: Can you make room for me?
Let us each prepare our hearts and minds for
Christmas this year by answering, “Yes, Lord! Thy
will be done!”
God Bless!
