Student Profile: Luke Bennett
1. What makes your family unique to other families you know?
I belong to a very large family of nine kids! I am the second oldest at 16 years, with six brothers and two sisters.
Every year, we travel as a family to Florida to celebrate the 4th of July with a traditional Cuban pig roast.
Our extended family gets together and spends time with one another: We swim, hang out, play games, or try to top our grandfather’s Domino-playing skills.
2. What is an average homeschooling day with Seton like for you?
Pretty simple, to be honest. I usually wake up at 7:30 and start with a chore, then sit down for breakfast before we pray the Rosary.
My schedule is strict, but is also relaxed in some areas. I’d say my most difficult subject is Math, as I have always had a tough time with it in earlier years, and most especially in high school. I do enjoy English, because it helps me a lot with my writing skills.
3. What’s something you have done that you really enjoyed doing?
Going on a cruise to the Caribbean with family- what an awesome experience! One of my favorite parts was getting really close to a Reef Shark. My dad shifted a bush of coral out of the way, and it shot out from underneath. Super cool!
Also, the workers on our cruise ship were really nice: One participated in part of the Mass my uncle celebrated, and one even helped me out when I was having trouble drawing a Pokémon!
4. What are your hobbies and interests?
I have several, but my absolute favorites are writing and playing video games.
For almost a whole year I have been working on a fantasy series, and I’m almost finished with book one! I was eleven when I first took interest in writing my own fantasy novel, but only last year did I become obsessed. Now I’m writing for hours each day! It gets tough, having to keep all of the information together in such a largely-planned series, but I manage.
5. What are some things you do as a family and on your own that you particularly enjoy?
It varies. Like I mentioned before, we play a lot of games together, but I particularly enjoy playing Legos with my brothers. Sometimes we swap pieces, or have a Lego Star Wars battle together, which is a lot of fun for my youngest siblings. I also enjoy playing Pokémon card battles with my dad and brothers (I’m currently the best), and I even have a rivalry with one of them!
6. What do you hope to do in the future?
I hope to be a well-known writer and write fantasy novels for a living. I’m hoping to bring to the world a great fantasy series, and express my love for the genre. I’d also enjoy writing a screenplay too, but that’s another adventure…
