This story was submitted for the 2015 Winter Quarter Short Story Contest. While it wasn’t a finalist entry, the judges enjoyed it, and felt it merited being shared with the community. Congratulations, Sophia! It was cold on the evening of December 19. Snow was falling softly from the pale blue sky, and the old brick convent was surrounded by a winter wonderland. The slight Colorado wind whistled through the trees and out beyond the mountains. A small trail of smoke slowly spiraled out of the tall chimney.
