This story was submitted for the 2015 Winter Quarter Short Story Contest. While it wasn’t a finalist entry, the judges enjoyed it, and felt it merited being shared with the community. Congratulations, Emily! I lay down my weary head upon the feathered pillow.  A long hard day deserves a long rest.  My muscles ache horribly.  From every bone I feel as though I have been broken and beaten through my skin. How much longer will I be able to endure such rough work completely alone?  I feel as though the end is already near; nearer and nearer every day....
